Slumdog Millionaire Steals The Show At Golden Globe Awards in L.A.
Movie Review: Slumdog Millionaire
"Wow...wow...wow..."..That's all I was muttering as I watched this movie. Each moment, each direction, each dialogue, left nothing more possible to be desired. It was just too perfect, the way everything was executed. I don't even have to provide a basis of the movie, instead just tell you to go watch it, but I will anyways.
It's about a young contestant, Jamal Malik(played by Dev Patel),who goes on the Indian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", where the only reason he participates is not for the money, but to take a wild chance and see if his childhood sweetheart notices him on the show. Will they ever be reunited? Now this sounds extremely generic, but actually, each question leads back to his childhood, and how life taught him so much more than an education could, and shows everything he experienced from the dirty ghetto's of Mumbai, to hustling by just himself and his brother to survive alone. That's when they meet Latika(played by Frieda Pinto), and Jamal instantly falls in love with her. But the situation gets twisted, and his older brother Salim abandons him, and sleeps with her, splitting the three of them up up until he gets on the show.
This is the basic set up of the movie, but as you watch them grow up, and witness the result of every question, etc. etc. you'll just end up smiling, wondering why you hadn't seen this movie earlier? According to Rotten Tomatoes, the web's top movie rating site, it's the highest rated movie currently in theatres. So what're you waiting for?? GO SEE IT!! :D
CES 2009 Coverage
Well, here we are once again, the heavenly galore for gadget geeks and nano nerds alike! Taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, the showcasing up to this point has been nothing short of outstanding! There have been a substantial amount of different electronics under different categories, ranging from mp3's, cell phones, etc. to Plasma screens, computers, and more! Just to make the wow-factor a little easier, I'm going to list for you my top 10 I've seen of this event up to date:
10.) LG Watch Phone: Ok, I know what you're thinking! I must be a complete idiot for placing this at number 10, but consider my opinion for a second. This is old, old technology. I mean literally, I've been seeing watch phones from the Chinese market since about 2-3 years ago, and to finally hit a North American company now, it just seems a little overdue, and the whole excitement of this technology has worn off. I just don't feel it was a good decision to unveil it here, since most people have also probably seen it elsewhere. We'll see how it does...
9.) Portable Panasonic Blu-Ray Player: Well, this should've been higher, but you'll later see why it ended up down here. I think it's great, that Blu Ray is now the modern format that everyone's watching movies on, and to take the next step into portable viewing is great. It's really making the push to soon be the commonly used format, and it'd be amazing just to watch movies in high def clarity, on a 7 inch screen!
8.) Kodak HD Camcorder: Well, not like we haven't seen enough of these around, with plenty of them churning into the market from different companies. But it's the price factor and portability that's REALLY great! It carries a 2 inch screen, and records at 60 fps. It'll soon be in the market for only $150, which is a great price.
7.) D-Link USB Powered Monitor: For those computer multi taskers, who just can't handle cramming all their open software's in one task bar, worry no more! This alternate 7 inch screen, will enable you to use two screens at once, through a single computer. So half your apps. can be open in one window, and half in the other, or whichever way preferred. It's also extremely portable, which is great.
6.) Lenovo PC: 21.5 inch screen. 4GB RAM. 1TB Hard Drive. Blu Ray, TV Tuner, Built in Subwoofer, MOTION SENSING!! BELOW $1000!? AHHH!! LOL, don't worry, I'm ok. But just to think, all those features stuffed into a single computer(with a sexy LCD monitor, mind you) and new motion sensing technology to control it, at such a great price, I think it's beautiful!
5.) We are officially moving into the portable age! With SD cards on the verge of release, now holding up to 2TB, WHO NEEDS A HARD DRIVE? I mean, literally, just 2 years ago, holding 1GB on a memory stick was mind blowing, and now to thing, 2,000 GB?? I must be in tech heaven...
4.) Mattel's Mindflex: Hey, how about we play a little game? Hope you're not mentally exhausted, because this will definitely make you! Mindflex, a new ping pong genre game where you have to use your mind to control a ball, mentally, and make it fly through hoops, rings, etc. It's amazing how far technology has really come, where you don't even need your hands to control a game! This would be an amazing gift if you have kids, or for the kid in yourself!
3.) Pharos Traveller Phone: Eyy iPhone, better keep your guard up, because here's a phone that's up for a challenge! Used to be a GPS company, it's now broken into the cell phone market, and along with outsanding GPS capabilities, it uses Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, contains a 3 mp camera, and offers GPS for only $50 a year, which is great if you're a constant "traveller".
2.) Palm Pre: Now, the iPhone REALLY needs to be careful! The new Palm Pre, which has been hyped up since the second it was unveiled at CES, might just be the competition to knock the iPhone off the throne! It's touch screen, with a slide out keyboard, and runs their custom OS, WebOS. It has GPS, 8GB of internal storage, and is obviously a touch screen. Not a lot has been revealed yet, but enough has been disclosed to let consumer's know that PALM is officially back in the cell game.
1.) Sixense Motion Sensing Controllers: And FINALLY, #1! Now, you all might rewind back to the Wii, thinking what's so great. Well apparently, their technology isn't specific, and only uses 3 points of hand gesture. This technology really pushes it to the next level, wherein this has 6 points, and specifically controls based on how you're holding the remote and in the specific position. It hits right on the mark! Every 10 milliseconds, it calculates the EXACT position of the remote. It'll be out by the end of the year, for PC, and they're currently in talks with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to push it to their consoles. XBOX and PS3 fans rejoice, as for Wii users, this might spell bad news. Just imagine, Halo 3..with motion sensing...:D!
Well, that's my list for now, and I'll keep it updated as the convention continues, especially when my awaiting news appears, the upgrades on the new Acer Aspire One 10-inch Netbook, which I really want to buy. Until then, take it eZz :)
Welcome To My BLOG :D
Yeah, yeah, I know this should've come before the New Years one, but who the hell cares! Anyways, my name is Saahir, for those who want to know. I'm a 15 year old teen of Indian descent living in Toronto, and am in grade 10. I find blogging to be a really great outlet, seeing as when I'm out on the streets, there's really no way to let my inner thoughts out. It's just hustle, hustle, get money, and hustle again :)...and an education. Anyways, hope the readers enjoy it on a regular basis, and drop any comments by whenever you feel the need. Enjoy :).
NBA : Root To Raptors Losses?
Well, for starters, let me reveal that I live in Toronto, but am in NO WAY associated with the rowdy, cheap ticket crowd sitting up in the $12.50 Sprite Zone seats yelling 'MVP! MVP!' every time Chris Bosh gets to the free throw line. And that line won't even attempt to pass through my head before the Raptors learn to START WINNING! Let's see their major screw-ups over the past few years...
1.) Hiring Babcock as General Manager, who "smartly" drafted Rafael Araujo with the 7TH OVERALL FRIGGIN PICK!! :O . This meaning that he gave up the likes of Andre Iguodala, Josh Smith, J.R. Smith, and whoever else....stupidity at it's finest.
2.) Letting Vince Carter go without seeking a proper offer! As soon as the league was aware of Vinsanity on the verge of leaving Toronto, teams were ready to offer anything(even their soul to the devil...nah, just kidding!) to get Air Canada on their side! Yet, Babcock couldn't bare to break his streak, and therefore traded Vince Carter for a loafty, on the verge of retirement Alonzo Mourning, who ended up getting paid by T-Dot and didn't even show up! Shame, shame...
3.) Letting Morris Peterson leave for the free agency market! I mean c'mon, clearly he was one of Toronto's most favourable athletes, having been on the team on of the longest, and just letting him go, aside from being an amazing shooter, but also a versatile scorer, was a bad, bad mistake. Despite not having better numbers than Kapono, he was able to accomplish much more, and it might be one of the roots to the Raptor's losses.
4.) FIRING SAM MITCHELL! C'mon guys, that's one drastic decision to make, ESPECIALLY when you're less than 20 games into the season. If you recall, the past 2 seasons had the Raptors starting off with worse records than the current one, yet they fire him now and replace him with interic coach Jay Triano. I mean, he's great and everything, but Mitchell was established in the league, even Coach of the Year 2 seasons ago, and I feel this is the current reason why the Raptor's are so mixed up in their plays, offence, etc. blowing 14 point leads at the half to lose the game.
Happy New Year People!
Well, what a year it has been! Hectic, tiring, depressing, yet, on the upper hand, exciting, adventurous, and very interesting. Of course, being a teenager, a lot of students really take a new year seriously, creating new resolutions, preparing new plans, making new decisions, etc. Me? Nahh B! I don't believe in that kind of stuff. The difference between one year and another is a minute...how much change can you expect? -_-. I mean, I'm not trying to play the party pooper or anything, but I'm just offering my opinion on why I think people get a little TOO excited, for a new year. I, myself, have set several goals, like staying in shape(not required, I'm already on the volleyball and basketball team), acing my courses(hopefully..), and just being able to make as mushc of my day as possible. But HEY! Those have been my goals since day 1, so why the hell should I start them at the beginning of the calendar year?? Ahh well, as long as people are having fun, who am I to say anything? Just a sensible, honest teenager :), eZz.
